The third challenge for IronHack is to create a UI/UX case study. For this challenge, I am going to jump into the shoes of a world traveler.

Destination:
Mexico, Chitzen Itza

User:
Young group
— 20–40 y/o (4)

You and your friends have decided to invest and spend some quality time together. You are planning your trip one year in advance to really make it happen and accommodate everybody’s schedules and needs. You’d like to share as much time together and plan for a lot of fun. You’re interested in a mix of culture and leisure. You have all saved for the last year for the trip so, while you’re still price-conscious this is the opportunity to spoil yourselves.

Research

  • Nearest airports: Cancun international airport
  • Currency: Pesos and some accept American dollars
  • Medical needs: DTP and Hepatitis A
  • Wardrobe recommendations: Light clothing, walking shoes, summer clothes, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water. Mexico is very humid and warm most of the time. Do pack some colder clothes for the night.
  • Days needed for attraction: 1 full day to visit Chitzen Itza, but minimal 7 days to visit the area (Yucatan).

Benchmarking

For the benchmarking part of this case we used the following apps: Kayak, Skyscanner and Tripadvisor. By using the Usability Heuristics evaluation with Nielsen Principles on one of these apps, Skyscanner, I conducted the following findings:

  • Visibility of system status
  • Match between the system and the real world
  • Consistency and standard
  • Flexibility and efficiency of use

Testing

After the above evaluation we are testing this app with users. We will focus on the Look and feel after which we will focus on the some key aspects.

The following aspects are taken into account: Accessibility, value proposition and Features while they perform the following tasks:

  • Look for tickets to Mexico within the budget of 800 -1000 euro
  • Look for an accommodation. High price segment, various options to do, but also options for relaxing
  • Look for ways to travel the area Yutacan

Insights

  • Home screen — not clear immediately due to search-bar only visible after a few clicks (clicking on the flight icon)
  • There is the option to browse on everywhere but not clear in the app
  • It can take some time loading the results
  • in the search page, you cant find you saved flights
  • The flow makes it that some uses just look at the options and go directly through the airline instead of clicking all the steps in the Skyscanner app

Redesign

Include the personalised button in the search field. An easier way to find you saved searches.

Thanks for reading.
